My Review of Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs

, ,

Hi everyone!
I received another Vox Box free from Influenster for testing purposes. This one is the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs box.

It contained a .75 ounce sample size of the Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup in medium.

At first glance I was kind of meh about the idea of leg makeup. I mean I spend so much time on makeup and hair already that I thought, “do I really need to add another task to my get ready routine”?

I started to warm up to the idea though while I was getting ready for my family reunion a few weeks ago.

I started a new job this summer where I spent most of my time indoors and my sun exposure was limited to what I got while driving. So my arms and face had some color but my legs were quite pale. So I decided I’d try it.

I was pretty impressed. My coloring evened out and no one could tell it wasn’t natural. The best part, it stayed on my skin and didn’t transfer to my clothes. I wore white capris so that is definitely a good thing!

Mascara of the Month May 2015

I’m sorry this is so late, things have been pretty hectic with me taking a night class and Mason and I adjusting to daycare.

This is the Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom. This isn’t a horrible product, but I won’t buy it again. The packaging is cute, which drew me to it. The mascara itself was just lackluster to me. I always get the darkest black, but when I applied this, it looked more gray than black.

One of its selling points is that it’s flexible. It really was, my lashes didn’t have that stick feel to them due to the kind of rubbery texture it had.

On the plus side though, it was pretty cheap, under $7.00.

I’ll leave you with s picture of my son using his stall tactics to get out of going to daycare. Requesting a snack and taking off his shoes and socks when we get there.

PurinaOne VoxBox Review

, ,

I received another fabulous VoxBox free from Influenster for testing purposes.

This one was for my cat Garfield. (What else do you name a chunky orange cat?) I got a bag of the PurinaOne dry cat food. Let me tell you, one bite and he was hooked! He even chose it over his treats!

Influenster also gave me a coupon for a free bag which I quickly redeemed.

We definitely made the switch, for our dogs too. It’s just a healthier choice for them. Unlike other dry foods, meat is the first ingredient, not corn. So why don’t you make the switch with me? Your pets will love you for it!

Mascara of the Month March 2015

This month I tried the Rimmel Scandaleyes Show Off mascara. Show off claims to lengthen, thicken, you know, the usual. It also says it’s a fiber formula. I’ve always wanted to try the Younique mascara but I don’t want to spend $29 on something I’m not sure I like the result. I’ve seen it done where they look really long but I usually feel like they need an eyelash comb. So for under $6 I chose Rimmel’s version.

I’m going to be blunt here and just say I don’t like anything about this mascara. It’s horrid!

I usually test these out for a moth before doing my review. I couldn’t do it with this one. I used it for a week and switched to another one.

I’m going to start with the brush. That little ball tip on the end is just useless. All it did was make it clumpy.

The formula is very thick and so so dry. It felt  really uncomfortable on my lashes. The dryness makes it hard to transfer the product to your lashes.  You can see little fibers in it. They really don’t serve much of a purpose.

Unless they can improve this formula, I’d never get this again.

Sorry Rimmel, this mascara is not something I want to show off. It’s a big, fat, fail.

I Hate You Heart Disease

Since February is heart month I’m going to share with you how heart disease has affected my family.

My dad had his first heart attack around 52 years old. We don’t know exactly when because he didn’t know. Not all heart attacks are as visually catastrophic as they show on TV. The severe pain, clutching of the chest. He never had that. Only through medical tests did they determine he had one and it was caused by a blockage of the main artery going to his heart. He had an amazing team of doctors that attempted angioplasty but because of some complications, had to do a bypass.

My mom waited until she was 54 to have her first. We were going to go on vacation. Before she left she had severe pain between her shoulder blades and was really nauseous. We spent our vacation at the hospital with her, grateful she survived. She did flatline on them once.

About five years later she had her second. Both times she had to have stents put in her arteries. Later she had a pacemaker defibrillator implanted to regulate her heart rate and if it needed to, shock her heart to get it to start beating again.

Her heart was functioning at less than 20%.

September 27, 2013 she passed away. She was shocked over 10 times by her defibrillator.

After my dads heart attack he suffered the loss of one of his kidneys then a few years later list the second one to cancer. He spent the next eleven years on dialysis. He lost one of his legs to an infection which was complicated by the dialysis, diabetes, poor circulation from his heart disease. He had the same pacemaker defibrillator that my mom had.

September 24, 2014 he passed away. He was being released from the hospital and I was on my way to get him when I got the phone call that he had died.

Heart disease is vicious. It does not discriminate. It is scary. In less than a year it stole both of my parents from me. My dad had beat cancer, lost a limb and learned how to walk again with a prosthetic leg. He fought so hard to come back from all of it. In the end he lost it all to heart disease.

If there is anything good that I can take from it is to get my health in order. Also, I found my calling.

I need to get my health on track. I have a two year old son that needs me. I want to be a good example for him. Hopefully we can avoid the health problems my parents.

I took care of my parents the last years of their lives. It kept them from living in a nursing home. Staying in their home was important to them. So, in March I start my training to become a nurses aide. After that I’m going to get a degree in nursing. It’s an important job. It’s a fulfilling job. Knowing that you helped someone is a good thing.

Mascara of the Month February 2015

, , ,

This may be a bit contradictory to last months post where I said I don’t like to buy expensive mascara. I still don’t like to spend a lot on it but the Tarte Lights , Camera, Lashes has me rethinking my stance.

Now I didn’t pay for this, I got it free around Thanksgiving when I ordered the Away Oui Go travel set from Ulta. The set came with one and then you got one free with any Tarte purchase.

It does exactly what mascara should do. It made my lashes look so long and thick. It lasts all day without smudging or flaking. When it time to take it off, it removes really easily.

If I had to find something wrong with it. I’d have to say the formula is a little dry. It’s so amazing though, I’d really overlook it.

You can get a full size tube at Ulta for $20.00. I’m really not okay with this. They do sell a deluxe size for $10.00 however. This was the free sample I received. I know size wise you’re getting so much more in the $20.00 tube but I have never, ever emptied a tube of mascara. So when I do buy this again, and I will, I’m going to buy the little one.

Measles Is Serious (A History Lesson from My Grandmother)

The Science of Mom

Measles is back. The outbreak of this highly contagious viral illness that started at Disneyland in December has spread across the country and shows no signs of slowing. As of February 6, the CDC reported 121 cases in 17 states in this year alone, most linked to Disneyland. In 2014, we had 644 cases of measles in the U.S. This is a striking increase compared to the last 15 years, when we usually saw less than 100 cases in an entire year.

measles 2015 CDCI’m sorry that so many people have been sickened in this outbreak and hope that it is reined in soon. This is no easy task given our mobile society and the fact that we like to congregate in places like Disneyland, schools, doctors’ offices, hospitals, airplanes, and shopping malls. Add to that the pockets of unvaccinated people where measles can easily spread, and we have a recipe…

My Review of Boots No 7 Serum

, , ,

I received the Boots No 7 Protect and Defend Advanced Serum free from Influenster for testing purposes.

I feel like I can’t give a full review because it’s a small sample size, but I was able to get a couple of applications out of the packet so I can cover the basics.

*Texture- Very nice, silky feel.

*Scent- it had a pleasant fragrance, not too strong.

*Absorption- it sunk into your skin really fast. It didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy.

*Results- too soon to tell the results of longer use but it left my skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

Mascara of the Month January 2015

, , ,

Considering the title of my blog, you’d think mascara is my favorite thing on Earth. It’s actually my least favorite. It’s just not exciting. Quite a few of them sting my eyes. Also, I really don’t see a big difference in length or fullness. Just a difference in color.
It’s also not something I’m willing to spend much money on either. $54.00 for the Urban Decay Naked palette. I wouldn’t bat a beautifully shadowed eye. I got a sample of an Estée Lauder mascara that I really liked. I looked up the price, around $40ish and ran screaming from the room.
So I’m probably not going to review anything too expensive.
I’m going to start the year with L’Oreal’s Miss Manga. I posted about it in my Fall Essentials, but it was just the mascara I was using at the time.
I kind of feel indifferent about this mascara. It was a last minute purchase at Ulta when I went there late last summer. I was intrigued by the commercial and when it caught my eye on the way to the checkout I snagged it and never looked back.
I have no idea what a “Manga” is but I’m assuming by the little cartoony character on the package that it’s some sort of anime type thing. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
So after using this from October to December I’m going to give this one a C grade. It’s just average. I found it to be dry and clumpy. It was a very true black that I love but other than that it’s pretty unremarkable and I’d pass on buying this again.
